1. Childhood:

Perry Mattfeld came into this world as Perry Frances Mattfeld on March 29, 1994 in California, United States of America. Perry Mattfeld grew up in Long Beach, California. Perry Mattfeld’s parents raised her with her two sisters.  The family has American nationality and comes from a mixed ethnic background because her mom is Hispanic and Perry Mattfeld’s dad is white. 

She is the daughter of her mother Shelley Garcia and her father Kenneth Mattfeld. Her father Kenneth has been an assistant attorney for the Port of Los Angeles since the year 2003. Previously, Kenneth was a member of several law firms as well. Her father also studied at the University of Michigan, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. 

The entertainment genes run in her family as she said: “ I think there is a great-uncle or great-aunt or someone who was an opera singer, but I don’t have anyone in my immediate family who is in this industry. So this is not something that I have taken from my family or been encouraged to do. I was in ballet for a while, then I did community theater and my mom encouraged me to take piano and singing lessons, just because it fostered that more creative spectrum. I was 12 years old when the mother of a friend of mine asked my mother if she wanted to take me to an audition for the American Girl tour”. 

Before she knew it, the young actress ended up playing Kit and Kirsten for 3 years, during the  American Girl magazine tour where she did 169 shows and that was her first professional job, working for Mattel, at 12 years old. 

2. Education: 

Perry Mattfeld graduated from high school Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach with a 4.6 GPA and also practiced acting at the Constance Tillotson studio. 

Later, she joined the University of Southern California in California, School of Dramatic Arts with a BFA in theater and a minor in film studies. In college, Perry was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was also part of the Song Girls team, in 2014, in ‘Sports Illustrated’ magazine, as Cheerleader of the Week.

She was a big fan of Meryl Streep and Emma Watson as she grew up, but still wanted to complete her education before launching her acting career, saying: ‘The more educated you are, the more experience you have life, the more you can contribute to your characters.

Following this, Perry spent some time in the modeling profession, but it was only a secondary career for her. Additionally, she thought about getting into acting. 

6. Perry Mattfeld’s acting career began in 2006:

She started acting professionally in 2006 with minor roles on the television show: The Megan Mullally Show.

At the age of 12, as part of the Mattel musical theater company, she played the role of Kirsten Larson and Kit Kittredge an American Girl Dolls, already having some experience as an actress as she appeared in The Wizards of Waverly Place (2009) and Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader (2012).

Since then, she took up roles in several TV shows and short films, including Escape from Polygamy (2013), Conan (2016), and Stitches (2017), Biters (2017), before landing her first recurring role in Shameless (2017 to 2018).

Additionally, she also had a recurring role as Murphy on the American television series, Into the Dark, which is a famous American television drama series for The CW which debuted mid-season during the 2018-2019 television season. The series is created by Corinne Kingsbury and as of January 30, 2018, the series further holds an approval rating of 70% based on 10 reviews, with an average rating of 7.16/10.

For the drama In The Dark, Perry plays Murphy, a blind, antisocial woman dealing with alcoholism while taking on a job she despises at the guide dog training school run by her parents (Kathleen York and Derek Webster). Everything changes when her friend is murdered, and she becomes an amateur detective to discover the murderer. 

During the movie, Perry not only plays the leading role, but she plays a blind woman. She got the role at a time when she had gone through a breakup that really shook her up a lot.

8. She opened up about not getting Homecoming with Julia Roberts: 

“I opted for a role in the series. I had gone through all the stages, including meeting with the producers and getting to the final cast selection, but I didn’t get the part, which was very disappointing because I already saw myself working with such a great cast. However, they invited me to read the female role at the script reading table. That was hard because I had become very attached to the project, but during a break in the session I found out that they had called me to audition for ‘In The Dark’ ”, she stated during an interview. 

“So it was interesting how it all happened because it’s hard to think that the reason why a role isn’t yours is because someone else is going to be. What is certain is that when I read for a pilot, I usually know if I’m interested by how quickly I read the script. If I have to reread it over and over again, it means I haven’t connected with it. With In The Dark, not only did I read it in one sitting, but I was very moved. I laughed out loud, and of course knowing that Ben Stiller and Michael Showalter were on this project together was amazing. I knew there was good taste in it”. 

9. To prepare to play a blind woman, Perry Mattfeld videotaped a blind woman: 

Fortunately for an actress who needs background and story analysis, In The Dark is inspired by a real person named Laurie. Laurie became not only the blindness consultant for the drama, but also one of the screenwriters. The team also had many other writers who are part of that collective.

Perry Mattfeld spoke about meeting Laurie who she based everything on. “ The CW president, Mark Pedowitz, who has been very nice to me, did a retreat with some of his co-workers and he met this woman, who was sarcastic, funny, bold and full of life. And I think it was one of the first times that he met someone with a disability who was anything but disabled”, she said during an interview. 

The actress continued to say that prior to doing the pilot, she spent a lot of time with her. 

“I saw how she prepared her meals, made her bed, organized her closets, watched TV, used the phone with the audio settings, watched her do her makeup, I accompanied her on her walks down the street walking with her guide dog, I really became obsessed with the physical aspect. I recorded everything on video”. 

“Murphy is so much more than physical, but I wanted to at least try to understand the physical so that when I got on set and tried to deal with the emotional, I would feel prepared”.

Fortunately for Perry Mattfeld, Laurie was on set too, and that helped guide her motions.  

10. Perry Mattfeld net worth:

According to online sources, Perry Mattfeld has an estimated net worth of around $2.5 million as of 2019.

Although her net worth is not as large as that of other actors and actresses, Perry is a philanthropist and has donated money to several charities over the years, most of which aim to help children of disadvantage.

Perry Mattfeld is currently dating her boyfriend, Andrew Right who is a former baseball pitcher who played for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. He is now a member of the TVG horse racing network which also engages in betting, an online company. The two met while studying together in college, but didn’t start dating until their senior year in 2016. They live in Los Angeles but not together, as Perry still lives with his parents and their dog.
